I don’t think I’m the only person who believes that New York isn’t merely just a city in the United States of America. In fact, I think New York City should be considered a commonwealth or providence of America, kind of like how Monaco is it’s own country, but is still technically located in France. Don’t believe me? Spend a week in bumblefuck Wyoming or Idaho, and you will surely realize that there is absolutely no reason any town in these states needs to be considered a “city” when compared to the Big Apple. The thing that makes New York so amazing and unique is the life that lies within it. It’s the people, culture, diversity and speed this city is running on that gives New York the reputation for desire, productivity, innovation and discovery that simply cannot be found in any other city in this world. The people that live in this city are just wired differently in in terms of the way they go about handling what is put in front of them each day. This is why there is nothing like a New York minute or a New York hustle. It’s a city of hustlers, all trying to make it, which creates this lively, ego-driven environment of cunning competition and self awareness.

Pandemic life is tough on everyone. But for a single person, the prospect of dating and sex — while social distancing to avoid a potentially life-threatening respiratory illness — feels impossible. How do you date without touching or kissing? How do you have sex without breathing on your partner and putting each other at risk? Dating seems even a more remote possibility. When the man, who is gay, raised the issue with his online therapy group, he was surprised by the compassionate response.

He asked you out somewhere cool. You met him while pondering the same Chuck Close piece at the Met, or while he was working as a dog walker in Washington Square. I should have known the date was going to be a disaster when he suggested we meet in Midtown. In those days we used to say we got a nosebleed if we ventured above 14th Street. Having only lived in New York for about a year, I still regarded the men here like a zoologist observing a new species in the wild: utterly fascinated, but also acutely aware that I could be bitten in the ass at any moment.
Getting to grips with the finer points of the mating rituals in the city, however, would prove a lot tougher than picking up the vocabulary. What I did know from my limited research was that New York men were far more forward than their London counterparts and, like Kenny, many of them could sniff out a new girl in town from a mile away.
I spent the hour before hopelessly roaming the dance floor in search of Femi, who was promoting a neo-soul party in the Meatpacking District to supplement her underpaid internship at an ad agency downtown. With his all-black uniform and dark sunglasses, Kenny had a brooding allure, something like Wesley Snipes in Blade.
When Kenny showed up for our date the following Thursday in a saggy gray suit and tie, the overall impression was more secondhand car salesman than superhero. Under the too-bright recessed lighting of an anonymous hotel bar on Broadway, his overly manicured facial hair had a whiff of disingenuous creep, too. Still, I wanted to believe that there might be a kind soul hiding inside his billowy shell.
Maybe I could forgive him for butchering my Nigerian name, but this awkward gesture seemed beyond the pale, unless the dog-eared MTA pamphlet was part of some ironic gag. To pivot away from this misstep, he hurriedly ordered us drinks—a Cosmo for me because Sex and the City , a Jack Daniels and Coke for him—and then proceeded to rifle through a gigantic binder of handouts. Kenny was an energy salesman, and I was about to witness his minute pitch.

By Rory Butler For Mailonline. A man who used a drone to ask a woman out on a date during the coronavirus lockdown in New York has taken her out on their first in-person date while wearing a protective inflatable bubble. Brooklyn photographer, Jeremy Cohen, 28, gained notoriety after he shared a video on social media of him flying a drone with his phone number attached to the woman, named Tori, while self-isolating.
Cohen explained in an earlier video how he first noticed the woman from his New York apartment when she was seen dancing on a nearby rooftop, and decided to put his time in quarantine to good use by asking her out in a funny and very novel way. New York City photographer Jeremy Cohen took his love interest, Tori, out on a date while wearing a protective bubble suit in observance of social distancing regulations.
Novel: The duo first got in touch after Cohen flew his number over to Tori on a drone, having first caught sight of her on a rooftop from his apartment. Heartwarming: Cohen, who enjoyed a first date with Tori from his balcony while she sat on her roof, said he knew he wanted to see her in person, without breaking social distancing rules. Knowing that he would be unable to meet her in person while New York City was in lockdown as a result of the COVID pandemic, he decided to use his drone to fly over his number to her.
How else will they be able to figure out that I am such a good, kind man? I volunteer once a month, and bring a professional photographer along.
The good, the bad But honestly? No, not in the way you’re thinking though, honestly, probably that way, too. New Yorkers are some of the most selfish people in the world — they’ll put their needs and desires before yours without a second thought. And they’re not trying to be malicious either. A friend of mine once looked genuinely concerned when a guy suggested Sushi Samba as their first date.
She thought this spoke a lot to his character because no self-respecting New Yorker would ever suggest a chain. I looked at her like she was certifiably insane, not to mention shallow. Then, a couple years later, a guy asked me to meet him at 13th Step for our date New Yorkers work their goddamn asses off.
